In the wake of artist-scholars and connoisseurs who once revered beauty and endeavored to champion art as a transcendental medium for its truth and symbolic representation, now - a sinister arithmetic and logic of power has entered to fill the meaningless void. While patronage and funding has always been necessary to advancement in artistic pursuits, previously, humankind in all the complexity of our moral facets - even in the case of Abstract Expressionism - was always at the center of the artist's subject matter.

Alas, now, only the monetary sales transaction and financial capitalization of an artwork has become the single most important arbiter of taste and artistic value. Whereas genius insight and artistic talent was once sought after as a quality worthy of contributing to our cultural virtues - and giving us a transcendental path forward to resolve the existential crisis at the heart of the human condition and our challenges to survival as a species - now AI threatens to commoditize creativity as a skillset to be had at the press of a button.

Amid the ceaseless posting on social media, video, and constantly changing imagery, the market demands "content" without any complexity beyond advertising or blatant commercial purpose. Universities teach theory over craft. Galleries chase trends over truth because artists lack the grounding and connection to history they once had to give shape to the contours of human reality and change the perspective of society like they once did.

Meanwhile, in an art market increasingly cornered by "finance bros" and the superficial art knowledge of Wall Street hedge fund owners - in tandem with the not-so hidden dreams of billionaires seeking a finite end to human progress with their efforts to prepare for a literal Doomsday in their fortified bunkers with the destructon of the planet and our species' eventual subordination to the rise of Artificial General Intelligence - the intellectual extinction and irrelevance of art as vehicle for civilizational change and enlightenment has been hollowed out.

The contemporary artist starved into submission and being a figure of abject uselessness. An NPC or "non-player-character."

What if the dissolution of overarching grand narratives is only one misunderstood cycle in the vexing meaning of art's role and purpose in the next phase of human history itself?

Is now the time for artists to throw in the towel? What if, instead, now is the time for all good artists to come to the aid of their country?

The question is: Is such a transformational change even possible as an individual? Or is it - like all meaningful cultural and revolutionary artistic movements that we study in retrospect - something that must be done collectively as a group: As an awakened school of artists and workers who have attained their class consciousness and are keenly aware of the historical role their vision and visual contribution of artworks have always played in changing society whether conciously or not?
